Alcantarea imperialis Rubra – bromeliad

APPEARANCE : Big-sized bromeliad with a large rosette of dark leaves flushed deep maroon-red. Red colour is variable from plant to plant and depending on available sunlight; and may be all over or at the tips only. Please note your tubestock may arrive green and will soon develop the distinctive colours as it grows.
USE FOR : Suited to large pots, indoors and out, and tropical or subtropical gardens.
CLIMATE : Protect from frost.
PLANTING : Plant in free draining soil in pots or out in the garden, taking care to keep the crown above the soil. Enjoys sunny to shaded positions, colour is stronger in good light. Site carefully as this is a big bromeliad when full-grown.
CARE : Bromeliads love warm and humid conditions. Water by filling the centre of the plant with rainwater or filtered water. After flowering bromeliads generally begin to die back. By this time plants will have developed pups which will take the place of the original plant. Fertilise during spring with an organic liquid feed mixed at half rate.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 2m H x 2m W, up to 5m in flower.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
