Aloe plicatilis, Kumara plicatilis – fan aloe

APPEARANCE : Tall tree aloe from the South African fynbos, with distinctive fans of long rounded blue-green succulent leaves which emerge symmetrically from the tip of corky trunks. Long stems of coral-red nectar-rich bell flowers on mature plants in winter-spring.
USE FOR : Handsome large feature ornamental for waterwise and succulent gardens; can be grown indoors in a pot.
PLANTING : Plant in free draining slightly acid soil in pots or out in the garden, taking care to keep the crown above the soil. Mulch with pebbles or grit. Suited to full sun. Protect plants from frost.
CARE : This aloe responds well to Mediterranean climates and year round water; if you have dry winters a little weekly watering is beneficial.
