Flowering for almost half the year, from early summer right through into winter, this lovely little native shrub really deserves its place in your garden. It’s happy in a pot, by the seaside, in a shrub border, or a pot on the patio. The cute little bell flowers, red and cream, hang like miniature Christmas decorations, luring in honeyeaters; and the dense foliage shelters birds year round.
Correa glabra x decumbens Tucker Time ‘Dinner Bells’ – native fuchsia
DESCRIPTION: Native dense mounding shrub, with small dark glossy leaves and abundant small creamy-green tipped, red bell flowers from mid summer to late winter. Sometimes called native fuchsia.
USES: Native and wildlife gardens, informal hedges, shrubberies, mixed beds, pots.
PLANTING: Plant in full sun to part or dappled shade, sheltered from strong winds. Unlike some natives, correas are happy in alkaline soils. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures as the young plant establishes. Tolerates frost, coastal spray, and dry spells once established.
CARE: A light prune once flowering has finished will help give the plant shape and keep it dense. Follow with an application of a native slow release fertiliser.
